The United States is known as the leader of the free world as well as an economic powerhouse with one of the strongest militaries. It is also known for its entertainment industry from Hollywood celebrities, a list athletes, and music industry tycoons. The US is also known for its love of food from fried food and BBQ to fast food chains like McDonalds.

The United States has become known as the leader of the free world with the largest economy. The US also has some of the most influential power both politically and culturally in the world. 


Love it or hate it, America’s influence is far reaching from its shores. However, the power has not come without its issues and scandal. But if one thing is for sure, it’s that at this point in time, no other nation comes close to exerting its power as much as the USA. 



Financial Capital of the World

New York is the financial capital of the US, but the United States is the financial capital of the world with the New York Stock Exchange being the largest stock exchange in the world. 


The U.S. has more Fortune 500 companies than any other country by far and The New York Stock Exchange has the largest market capitalization of any stock exchange in the world.



Richest Country

The United States is the richest country in the world. The US GDP per capita is around $54,000. 


The US is also home to many billionaires and multi-millionaires. Some states are more famous than others for having an outstanding share of the rich population.

Strong Military

The United States is also famous for its military might. The American war machine is unmatched in many aspects from its spending, tech, weapons, and manpower. 


The United States spends more on its military than the next 11 strongest militaries from other countries combined. The US has the second most nuclear weapons in the world. It also sells more weapons than any other country. America has the 3rd largest standing army in the world. 


In almost every metric America ranks in the top; weapons, manpower, military equipment, planes, boats, subs, technologies, and more.




Sports are an integral part of American culture, but this has not always been the case. Throughout its history, different sports have enjoyed periods of wide acceptance and popularity, only to later fall out of favor.


Some early examples are horse racing and cockfighting, both popular in colonial times. Horse racing lost ground when state governments outlawed betting, while cockfighting declined when it began to seem cruel.


Ice hockey was the first organized sport in America, beginning in the late 1800s. Baseball soon overtook hockey. The professional football league formed in the early 1900s, but football was considered a minor sport until after World War II.



American Football

One of the best-known things about Americans is their love for American football which is barely played with their feet. 


American football is the most-watched sport in the country and has become their favorite pastime, like hockey in Canada, or football (soccer) in the rest of the world. 


American football is so popular that kids start playing it very young and even high school football games draw massive crowds. Football is all things American. The sport is the lifeblood of the country.

Basketball is another one of America’s most popular sports. Basketball has gained a huge following in the country thanks to its accessibility, the game does not require much equipment, unlike American football.

Baseball is America’s pastime. The original sport that put America on the map has to be baseball. The sport has deep roots in the country and is one of the country’s favorites to watch and to play. 


The United States has 30 professional Major Baseball League teams and 120 minor league teams. 



College sports

College sports are incredibly popular in the US. However, this is not normally typical in other western countries. College sports leagues are major businesses in the United States generating billions of dollars annually.


The NCAA, or National Collegiate Athletic Association, employs 98 percent of all college athletes and is the main governing body for universities. This organization regulates over 1,000 institutions and has a total of 1,100 separate colleges.


In 2019, the NCAA’s revenue reached almost $19 billion from TV deals, sponsorships, and ticket sales alone.




America is well known for its interstate highway system. The interstate highway system is major freeways, highways, and roads. This system connects the USA from coast to coast and has facilitated the growth of the country into the economic powerhouse that it is today.


The highway system has allowed for the free flow of goods and products to zig-zag across the country with ease. The interstate highway system is also beloved by travelers looking for awesome road trips.


The interstate highway system created the car-loving America that is so famous today. Its construction was heavily lobbied for by all the major car companies. The road system helped create more demand for vehicles which in turn brought sales to some of the most well-known car companies in the world such as Ford and General Motors.



New York City

New York City is one of the most famous cities in the world. It is the most populous city in all of the United States, with over 8.3 million residents calling it home. However, this number pales in comparison to the 14 million residents of the greater New York City metropolitan area. 


The city is broken into five boroughs; Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx. Each borough has its own unique qualities and attractions. However, Manhattan gets most of the credit, as it is the part of New York that is mostly portrayed in the media and on the silver screen.

Central Park

Central Park is an urban park located in Manhattan. It is the most visited city park in all of America, with around 40 million visitors every year. The park covers an area of 843 acres, with most of it being open green space. However, there are also roads that people can drive or bike through the park on. It is almost twice the size of Vatican City. 


The park offers plenty to do for people of all interests and ages. Tourists and residents alike enjoy the 7+ miles of walking tracks, bike lanes, playgrounds, blading rinks, ponds for ice skating, and so much more.


It has been called the “heart of Manhattan”, which is fitting because it does offer many different attractions for people to enjoy.



Grand Central Station

Located in Midtown Manhattan, Grand Central Station is one of the most famous train stations in America. It also has the title of being the world’s “most beautiful station”. 


The building itself is absolutely stunning. It dominates the midtown landscape, with its high ceilings and large windows facing the streets at street level. The inside of the station has a giant main waiting room, so large that it features a gigantic astronomical mural on the ceiling. 


Grand Central Station is the largest train station in the world with 44 platforms.



Empire state building

Standing at 1,454 feet tall, the empire state building is one of the most iconic buildings in American history. The Empire State Building has long been a fixture of the New York skyline. 


The skyscraper has been featured in many films and TV shows, like King Kong or Sleepless in Seattle. There is even a scene from Ghostbusters filmed at the empire state building. 


The empire state building was the tallest building in the world for forty years, before it was surpassed by another NYC skyscraper. It has 102 floors. 



Chrysler building

Standing at 1,046 feet tall, the Chrysler building is one of the most distinctive and unique skyscrapers in New York. It was built in the Art-Deco style, which was a very popular style of architecture during the early 20th century. 


The building’s primary use is as offices, it used to be the headquarters of the Chrisler corporation which was sold after WWII.



New York City Museums

There are many New York City museums that provide people with knowledge and history regarding different topics. 


One of the most popular New York City museums is the New York Museum of Natural History, which features a dinosaur exhibit and other attractions. This is easily a place one can get lost for hours.


NYC is also known for its Museum of Modern Art(MoMa). The MoMa has a very unique design and interesting art exhibitions. New York’s art sense is one of the best in the world. 


The third most well known museum in New York is the Met, holding some of the worlds most well known pieces of art by some of history’s most well known artists..




Manhattan is best known for its vibrant and diverse media culture. It was here that the motion picture and television industries first developed and established themselves as dominant forces in American popular culture, and it continues to be the first stop for those seeking access to those industries. It also has a large number of financial and publishing institutions, and is a major center of higher education.



Los Angeles

Los Angeles is a major city in Los Angeles County, California. LA is the second most populous city in the US, after New York City. It’s a major international city known for its motion picture and television industry, music industry, and a diversified economy, which includes international trade and tourism.

Hollywood is most notable for its iconic Hollywood sign. Which used to say Hollywoodland but was changed to the now-familiar sign we recognize today.

The Willis Tower

The Willis Tower, formerly the Sears Tower, was once the tallest building in the world and is now the third tallest building in the United States. 


It stands at 1,451 feet tall. The tower has 108 stories, and it is home to some of the highest dwellings in the country. The tower’s observation deck is on the 103rd floor and has an impressive view of the city.



Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nevada is one of the most visited cities in the world, known for its casinos and entertainment. The city gets nearly 40 million visitors every year. From partiers for their bachelor and bachelorette parties to business conventions and more, Las Vegas has a reputation of being an adult theme park.

America’s hateful past has had lasting effects into the present, especially when it comes to race relations. Slavery in America dates back to the 16th century when Africans were captured and forced into slavery by Europeans. Slavery at one point was a common practice in many parts of the world and in many parts of the United States.


Slavery was a driving force to why the American Civil War broke out and the southern states tried to secede. The north won and abolished slavery.


Although slavery has ended the long-lasting systemic racism still lingers in American society and is deeply woven rooted in government policies.



Civil Rights

American rights are guaranteed to American citizens. Examples of American civil rights include freedom of speech and the right to vote. These rights are protected by the American government. 


Martin Luther King Jr. was an American civil rights activist who is considered the father of American civil rights for blacks. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and his legacy lives on through the American civil rights movement.


Black Lives Matter is a current American civil rights activist movement that started after a police officer shot and killed American teen Mike Brown. The movement gained worldwide attention when video footage showed George Floyd, a black man, being unjustly killed by Derek Chauvin, a white police officer.

People in the United States have the right to keep and bear arms. In fact, the 2nd amendment to the US constitution clearly states that it is a God-given right to bear arms. 


The country is known for its wide availability of weaponry. The USA has more gun owners than any other country by far, with about 120 guns per 100 people so many people have more than one gun.


Some people love this, while others find it terrifying. America is hugely divided on gun control. Some people want more freedoms when it comes to buying and owning firearms, others wish to see regulation changed.



Mass shootings

With so many guns in the US, mass shootings are much more common than in other parts of the world. 


The U.S. has the highest number of mass shootings in the world—mass shooting being defined as four or more people killed by gunfire, excluding gang killings and terrorist attacks. 


The majority of mass shooting victims are generally Americans.


Mass shootings in the United States often spur calls for new gun control legislation with very little progress ever actually made.




Murder in America is an issue that receives much attention in the media. The United States Bureau of Justice Statistics began collecting data on murder in 1958, and has since published a variety of reports, including annual firearm and non-firearm specific counts of murder nationwide. 


The gun problem is partly to blame for the high murder rate as well as a host of other societal problems from mental health, inequality, terrorism, and gang violence.




The terrorist attacks of 9-11 are still remembered today and will continue to have long-lasting effects on the psyche of the United States population. 


On September 11th, 2001 four suicide attacks were performed by al-Qaeda against the United States in New York City and Washington D.C. The attacks resulted in the collapse of The World Trade Center with nearly 3,000 deaths (of which 2,753 were in New York City). 


It is a day that will live on in infamy.



Wall Street

Wall Street in New York City is the capital of the world financial system and, as a result, has been at the epicenter of American economic policies since its inception. 


With both major political parties in the US promoting conservative “free” market policies, it should come as no surprise that Wall Street has benefited immensely over the years. 


It is one of the most important places in the world, yet it is something that very few people know much about.



Donald Trump

Donald J. Trump, love him or hate him you know him, he was the 45th president of the United States from 2017-2021. A businessman turned politician this man has made headlines around the world for his loud behavior. 


Loud and obnoxious

Americans have a reputation for being loud and obnoxious. They tend to be pretty open and straightforward, but they also tend to overstep boundaries. This often results in uncomfortable situations for themselves and others around. Enough said.



Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is one of the United States of America’s most famous symbols. It stands 151 ft tall from the ground to the tip of its flame and is located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. 


She is made of copper and stainless steel, weighs 450,000 lbs, and was given to the United States by France as a gift for America’s Centennial.



Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore, located in the Black Hills area of South Dakota, is one of America’s most iconic monuments. While its fame is entirely due to its amazing carvings, few people know much about the monument itself. 


The subjects of the carvings of Mount Rushmore are of four of America’s most well known and influential presidents; Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, and Thomas Jefferson.



The Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge is a very important piece of American History. It is also one of the most beautiful and iconic pieces of architecture in the US. The Golden Gate Bridge connects the city of San Francisco to Marin County and is the one of the longest suspension in the world.

The bridge is recognized worldwide as a symbol of power and progress as it was the tallest and longest bridge in the world at the time of building in 1937.



One World Trade Center

Out of the ashes of the twin towers has risen One World Trade Center in New York City. One World Trade Center is the tallest building in the United States of America. It is also one of the tallest buildings in the world. 


One World Trade Center is located on the island of Manhattan and is home to a major broadcasting antenna. The skyscraper was completed in 2014.



The United States has a long history with warfare. Fighting in countless wars and also fighting by proxy by sending aid to foreign nations in the shape of weapons, cash, intelligents and training. Here are a few wars that the United States has been involved in.



War of Independence

After signing the Declaration of Independence in 1776, war broke out between the Colonies and Great Britain. It was not until June 26, 1783, though, that the Treaty of Paris was signed and the country had officially won its war for independence.



American Civil War

The American Civil War was fought from 1861 to 1865 between the United States, also known as the Union, and a group of southern states which organized themselves as a brand-new country, the Confederate States of America, or “the Confederacy”.


The Civil War was a result of years of tensions between the southern and northern states in the United States of America. Many factors played a part in causing the war, but slavery was certainly one of the main reasons for it.



World War I

The United States was not heavily involved in World War I, but did supply other countries involved with the war. However, on April 2, 1917 Woodrow Wilson, America’s 28th president, declared war against Germany and the other Central Powers.



World War II

America’s main involvement in World War II was through the Allies and the Tripartite Pact. The Tripartite Pact, signed by Germany, Japan, and Italy respectively, was a treaty of mutual protection between the three countries to last ten years. However, the United States did not join this group.


The country’s main involvement in World War II was through the Allies, along with Britain, France, Russia, Poland, and others.



Pearl Harbor

On December 7th, 1941 America experienced its bloodiest day on home soil until the 9-11 attacks in 2001. Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii, was the site where Japan launched a sneak attack on the United States killing thousands of Americans. It was the main reason for America joining WW2.

Korean War

The war between North Korea and South Korea broke out June 25, 1950. Fearing that the country would take over all of Korea, the United States sent troops to aid South Korea.



Vietnam War

The Vietnam War was a conflict between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The United States was involved in the war as they believed that the South Vietnamese government would not be able to hold up on its own.


The War ended on April 30, 1975 when North Vietnam took over South Vietnam.



Iraq War II

The Iraq War was initiated by President George W. Bush as a counter-attack to the Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq because Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and was involved with terrorist organizations.




Fast food has become hugely popular in the United States, to the point where it has been blamed for a number of health problems.


An average American eats three hamburgers a week, and 70 percent of American children eat fast food on a monthly basis at minimum.


Many people living in lower-income brackets eat fast food because it is cheap and easy to obtain. But, as “Fast Food Nation” author Eric Schlosser points out, the country’s epidemic of obesity cannot be blamed solely on fast food; it is also caused by poverty and affluence.



Dunkin doughnuts coffee

Dunkin doughnuts coffee is a brand name of coffee produced and sold by Dunkin donuts. The company was started in 1950 and sells more than 3 billion cups of coffee a year. Dunkin donuts is most well known for its coffee and doughnuts but also sells a large variety of muffins, pastries, and other snacks. 




Kentucky Fried Chicken or better known as KFC is a fast-food chain that mainly serves fried chicken. KFC was founded by Colonel Harland Sanders on March 20, 1930, in North Corbin, Kentucky. One day a customer came to Colonel Sanders and said “your chicken is delicious, this would be great on a sandwich!” And the rest was history.




McDonald’s is the world’s most famous and well-known fast-food chain. 


McDonald’s has become so well known around the globe that you can base a country’s cost of living by how much a Big Mac costs in a location. This is called the Big Mac Index.



In-N-Out Burger

In-N-Out Burger is a fast-food restaurant located in the southwestern United States and is well known for its customer service. The company has many strict rules that employees must follow, as well as only having a certain number of allowable mistakes before they will be let go.


It has a massive reputation for being one of the best burger joints in the US. In-N-Out Burger has a small menu with only a few items. But, for a place that just serves burgers, fries and milkshakes they sure know how to create a memorable experience. It is for sure worth trying at least once so you can see for yourself. 



Burger King

Burger King is a world-renowned fast-food chain restaurant. 


Burger King has many American staples, such as the Whopper (their variation of a hamburger) and chicken nuggets. They also have their own line of drinks and desserts.



Taco Bell

Taco Bell is America’s most well-known Mexican fast-food restaurant. It is owned by Yum! Brands. Other subsidiaries of Yum! Brands are KFC and Pizza Hut. Taco Bell is regularly ranked in the top ten companies of Yum! Brands.


Taco Bell has been in the US since 1962 and has a cult following with most Americans. The most popular items on the menu are the chicken power bowl, the Cantina crispy chicken taco, the crunchwrap supreme, and the bean burrito.




Subway sandwiches is a privately held American fast food restaurant franchise that primarily sells submarine sandwiches (subs). It is owned and operated by Doctor’s Associates Inc. Subway is one of the fastest-growing franchises in the world, with 44,028 restaurants in 112 countries and territories as of December 27, 2016.



The Grand Canyon

The grand canyon is an immense gorge carved through the Earth by the Colorado River in Arizona, United States. This amazing natural feature is one of the most famous tourist attractions in the world.


A Culture of Entrepreneurship

In the United States, there is a strong culture of entrepreneurship, where people have the freedom to start their own business if they want to. There are many different kinds of business from large companies, to small mom and pop stores, to people who work for themselves.


Major corporations

The United States has some of the richest and most well known companies in the world. These companies range from entertainment and commerce, to tech and communications.




This family friendly film studio is known in almost every household. Disney is a behemoth in the entertainment industry, with the rights to blockbusters such as the entire Marvel Universe, Star Wars Universe, National Geographics, and so much more. 


Disney was founded in 1923 by Walt Disney and has been going strong ever since.


According to statistica.com Disney accounted for over 30% of total box office revenue in Canada and the US in 2019.




Amazon is one of the best-known companies in the world today. The online retail giant is one of America’s most successful companies in the last 100 years. Amazon has grown since its very humble beginnings as a bookseller. Amazon is so successful, it accounts for 43% of all online retail sales in the United States.


Amazon was started by Jeff Bezos in July 1994, who is the current CEO of the company. The company began as an online bookstore, selling books and other media products through a post office box in Seattle, Washington. The company’s main idea was to put every book ever printed within reach of a person’s hands.


Amazon has grown from just selling books to selling everything, it is the largest online retailer in the world. Amazon has branched out from just ecommerce and now owns many other companies such as Twitch TV, Goodreads, ShopBop, IMDB, Zappos, AbeBooks, and more.



Apple is known as an American company, where it produces some of the world’s most popular products such as iPhones, iPods, iPads, and their iconic Macintosh computers just to name a few. 


Apple is also known for its popular smartphone apps like Facetime, iMessage, AirDrop, and iTunes. 


This company started with Steve Jobs in his garage, where he designed the first Apple computer.



Google is known around the world for being one of the largest companies in the world. 


Google is also a popular company for being innovative and creative, creating some of the most popular softwares out there, such as Google Docs and Gmail. 


Google started as a research project by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in the late 1990s, originally called “BackRub.” This site would crawl the internet to search for related links, providing us with one of the first search engines. The pair launched it on the Stanford University network forever changing the world forever.


Google is also known for providing jobs with great pay and lots of great benefits. 




Microsoft is a software technology company that is well-known around the world. Microsoft provides us with popular products such as Windows, Xbox, and Outlook. 


Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen on April 4, 1975, and has since grown from a garage to one of the largest companies in the world making its founders some of the richest people in the world. Bill Gates is one of the world’s most famous billionaires.


Microsoft is also recognized for providing jobs with good pay and benefits. 




America’s new sweetheart Tesla and its famous CEO Elon Musk have been gaining global recognition. Tesla is an up-and-coming automotive company, producing electric cars for the mass market, with a target for people wanting a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels.




Starbucks coffee company was founded in 1971 by three partners, Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl, and Gordon Bowker. The first store was located at 2000 Western Avenue in Seattle, Washington.


Since then it has grown to become one of the most recognized brands in the world. On June 30, 2006, Starbucks had 8,107 stores worldwide, with 4,469 of those located in the United States.


With about 153,000 employees worldwide, Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse company in the world.


Starbucks is currently headquartered at 2401 Utah Avenue South, Seattle, Washington in the SoDo neighborhood.




America and its love affair with narcotics. The United States is the largest drug-consuming country in the world. Americans’ appetite for drugs has made the country a major world supplier and created an enormous drug-trafficking industry.


The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) says that “it is no secret that the United States and the Southwest Border have a drug problem.” The problem may be especially on the southern border but the problem is throughout the entirety of the county.




Cocaine is a strong stimulant mostly used as a recreational drug. Street names for cocaine include blow, bump, C, candy, coke, crack, flake, lady, snow, and powder. Street dealers may also cut the drug with cornstarch, talcum powder, flour, sugar, or a variety of other substances making it more difficult to identify when initially purchased and increasing profits. Street cocaine may be adulterated or “cut” with other substances such as fentanyl making it even more dangerous.


Cocaine is known to be popular among high class businessmen as well as the lower class. 



The American Healthcare System

The American healthcare system is a touchy subject in American politics. It is often difficult to understand the American healthcare system, especially when compared with that of other countries.


American healthcare is not a public system meaning citizens do not have access to free medical care. American citizens must pay for their own medical treatment in order to receive care, which can take a heavy financial toll on American families, or they need to get insurance to cover medical costs. Although insurance often doesn’t cover the full cost of medical bills and is very selective of which services they will cover.


The American healthcare system is considered to be one of the priciest in the world. With Americans spending thousands to millions of dollars to receive treatments.



Mall of America

The Mall of America, located in Bloomington, Minnesota is the largest shopping mall in the United States. The Mall of America is home to an indoor amusement park (Nickelodeon Universe) and hosts more than 500 shops. The Mall of America is visited by 40 million people a year.



The Alamo

The Alamo is a fortress located in present-day San Antonio, Texas. The Alamo is best known as the site of The Battle of The Alamo, a conflict between The Mexican Army and The Texian Army during The Texas Revolution. The battle was fought from February 23 to March 6, 1836.


The Battle of The Alamo resulted in The Mexican Army killing all Texian defenders and The Alamo itself being burnt to the ground. The Battle of The Alamo is considered an important “symbolic victory” for The Texians even thought they lost. 


The battle was not recognized as a solitary event because The Mexican Army and The Texian Army had previously fought at the Battle of The Medina, The Siege of Bexar and The Battle of Gonzales.



The White House

The White House is the office and residence of the current President of The United States. The white house is located in Washington, D.C., and is one of the most iconic symbols of American culture. 


The White House was built by William Thornton in 1792. The total cost of the White House was $232,372 and its construction was the first project of the United States government. The architect of the capitol and the president jointly selected Thornton to plan and oversee the construction. The CIA’s main goal is to gather information about foreign governments, corporations, as well as other national security threats. 


The CIA conducts espionage operations and propaganda campaigns to support those goals. The CIA is also responsible for planning counterintelligence programs to protect the United States. 




The FBI is the USA’s lead federal law enforcement agency. FBI stands for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. 


The FBI plays a vital role in keeping the nation safe and free. The FBI was established in 1908 by President Theodore Roosevelt and is made up of over 35,000 employees who work together to protect the nation’s security and uphold the law. 


The FBI operates in four main areas: national security, criminal justice, science and technology, and human resources.

A lesser-known fact about Yellowstone is it sits upon one of the world’s largest underground magma chambers. Yellowstone National Park’s underground magma chamber is considered to be a supervolcano and has the potential to create the biggest natural disaster the world has ever seen.
