Schwartz’s Deli is a Montreal institution. One of the city’s most iconic restaurants serving up what many would call the best-smoked meat in the city, and even the whole continent.
Have it as a classic Montreal smoked meat sandwich on rye bread with yellow mustard. Or put it on pretty much anything else on the menu. It is delicious!
A must-have for all, whether you are a local or just visiting. Schwartz is a Montreal landmark.

REUBEN’S DELI AND STEAKHOUSE
Reuben’s has been serving up arguably the best-smoked meat in Montreal since 1976. It has a nice jazzy atmosphere, which has more of a middle-class restaurant feel. Some say it’s a step up from Schwartz’s run-down deli vibes.
The smoked meat sandwich is massive so come hungry. Also, make sure you grab a piece of their cheesecake!
If Schwartz doesn’t do it for you, cross the street and you will find the Main Deli. All the same great tasting Montreal Smoked Meat without the same crowds.
Arguably better than Schwartz’s Deli but you can decide for yourself.
Main is a great choice if you want to enjoy the food without tons of people around you while you eat and wait in lines.

LE ROI DU SMOKED MEAT
These guys sell smoked meat by the pound which is always nice when feeding many mouths or just one very hungry one.
Le Roi du Smoked Meat has famously found a way to put smoked meat on pretty much everything. Pizza, in pasta sauces, by the pound, and of course the classic Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich.

Watch out for the poutine, because they use mozzarella as the cheese. Ditching the traditional Quebecois poutine. (This is a major faux pas not using the standard cheese curds.)

Fameux Viande Fumée Et Charcuterie serves delicious smoked meat that is extra juicy and tender, with fans saying its better than Schwartz.

La Banquise is continuously voted as the best poutine in the city and of course, no top poutine restaurant can be without the city’s beloved smoked meat.

The place in recent years has become a major tourist hotspot to the likes of Schwartz’s. If you don’t love the long tourist queues stop by at an odd time as they are also open 24/7.
Deli 365 is known for having amazing kosher smoked meat. This is a big sell for the large Jewish population in the city.
This is another good spot if you are wandering around the Mile-End area of Montreal.
A small shop with not much seating, great service (all in English which the francophones don’t love). This is a nice spot to grab a sandwich to-go and enjoy some smoked meat on the go.
REUBEN’S RESTAURANT DELICATESSEN
Ah yet another Reuben’s Restaurant serving up Montreal’s favorite smoked meat. Reuben’s Restaurant Delicatessen not to be confused with Reuben’s Deli and Steakhouse which is also just a few blocks away.
Locals love this place cause you can pick the amount of fat you would like on your smoked meat. Fatty for more full flavors and experienced conosours and lean for the novices in the group.

Moe’s Bar & Grill is a little away for most tourists but if you find yourself over in the western part of the island make sure you stop by for some of the best smoked meat the west island has to dish up.

DELI VIEUX PORT

Hawgs Deli is a laid-back and cool place for when your hungry and caught out over on the east side of the island. Hawgs is a great sit down restaurant to grab a bite of some famous Montreal smoked meat and enjoy a drink with friends. Good prices on tasty food. More of a local francophone joint. Le Deli Marche 440 makes some of the tastiest and juiciest smoked meat in all of Laval. For when you are leaving Montreal or returning from Mt. Tremblant Deli 440 is a must stop for some of the best-smoked meat not only in Laval but the entire Montreal area.
Flavors that can’t be beat even by the likes of Schwartz so skip the line if you are in Laval.
